Like a Child
I close my eyes,
To see, to smell, to feel
Beings around me.
The beauty of their existence,
Freedom within, and innocence
Of the enchanted magical
Childhood fantasies
Long ago passed,
Remaining safe and secure in
My heart forever, just as it was
When I was a child.
To see, to smell, to feel
Beings around me.
The beauty of their existence,
Freedom within, and innocence
Of the enchanted magical
Childhood fantasies
Long ago passed,
Remaining safe and secure in
My heart forever, just as it was
When I was a child.

This is why McDonald, Lewis and Tolkien, the foundational Christian fantasy authors, used magical characters so much in their stories; Jesus said that unless we became like little children we would not be able to inherit the kingdom of God. Belief lost is tragic. Restoration is the culmination of belief restored, a very magical thing; God turns what was our emptiness, our nothing, into something; our selves, hid with Christ in God. The freedom is unsurpassed. Beautiful fairy sonnet, Carol, like all of them!
